If you want capture color you will need to attach the sensor to a supported host device (iPad) and use the Uplink feature of the Structure app to connect over WiFi to a device running Skanect.

Please note that the Structure Sensor, both models, does not have a color (RGB) camera and only captures depth for constructing 3D models. The original Structure Sensor (Mark I) cannot scan in bright, direct sunlight but the Structure Sensor Mark II can. It does not support the importing of scans made with other apps, exported by Skanect or have the ability to merge multiple scans you can use MeshMixer for that. Skanect is a capture app with some post-processing features of scans captured with Skanect. This policy may change in the future but for now it is, effectively, a perpetual license. Both are available to download from my Google Drive folder without license, free for all.The Skanect Pro license is supposed to be for 1 year of minor updates but since Skanect was released (in 2013) we have never charged for an upgrade or support plus there is no method available to renew a subscription or license. Either grab the STL file (works with most printing software and print services) or rework the design yourself if you download I measured it so it fits comfortably in my hand.

The files were designed in the free version of Sketchup(my favorite 3D design program). The cable slides into the slot and runs down the grip as shown in the pictures below. The Sensor attaches easily to the front, with just 4 screws. The design also has a 4mm slot that runs down one side of the grip and fits the cable nicely so that the cable wont get caught on your hand or pulled loose. It has a 2mm groove that runs across the face plate and four 1mm screw holes that fit the screws that come with the “ Hacker Cable” version of the Sensor. The “ Pistol Grip” is made specifically for the Structure Sensor. I needed something better, so I designed a “ Pistol Grip” for the Structure Sensor. Laptop in one hand meant that I was basically holding the device with 2 fingers while waving it around. The “ Hacker Cable” meant that it easily plugged into USB, but I was having issues trying to find some way to grip the device while walking around someone doing a scan.

I got the Structure Sensor to do 3D scans with my Macbook.
